Så er det frukt, bær og grønsaker då. Eg anbefalar å lesa meir nøye på dei sortane ein har, for her er det mange ulike behov. Det er ein heil vitenskap å setja seg inn i, om ein ynskjer det. For meg, gjeld helst «man tager hva man haver». Hønsegjødsel, som eg har fri tilgong til her heime, funkar på det meste, synst eg. Og grasklypp. Eg blandar grasklypp i jorda for næring, og legg det oppå jorda for å hindra ugras, og for å halda betre på fukt.

  • Gull-vatn: tiss er utruleg næringsrikt, og det er verkeleg noko me har fri tilgong til alle saman! Det skal blandast med vatn i forholda 1:10, og brukast ferskt. Vert det ståande nokre dagar, luktar det ikkje akkurat godt. Ein kan gjødsla alt mogleg med det. Til det som er etande, må ein berre passa på å gå over til annan næring ca dei siste tre vekene før det er modent, for å unngå bismak.

Så tenk over korleis du dyrkar jorda di, og legg forholda best mogleg til rette for plantene dine. For kven ynskjer seg vel ikkje ein bugnande hage, som eksploderer i veksekraft? Det er vel målet for ein kvar hage-interessert!

Jippi, no er sommaren her!

Det veks som det knakar i hagen, og det er ein fryd å sjå alt som spirer og gror. Det er på høg tid å setja ut georginer, så grønsaksfrø og klyppa graset. Mai og juni kan vera travle månadar, men det er faktisk ei god kjensle å leggja seg ein lys sommarkveld når det verker godt i kroppen etter ein skikkeleg arbeidsdag i hagen.

Mykje kjekt skjer i hagen no, det er jammen ikkje enkelt å halda fylgje! Nokre utfordringar dukkar óg opp i etter kvart, og for min del er det først og fremst sniglar og lus.

Nokre få er heldige og har hagar frie for brunsniglen, men mange kjenner stor frustrasjon knytt til dei slimete, treige vesena. Sniglen kan raskt ta livet av planter, og i kjøkenhagen er det ikkje særleg appetitt-vekkjande med slimete salat og reddikar. Dei har sine favorittar i hagen, som georginer, hosta og rudbeckia, og mange vél vekk desse plantene i hagen sin.

Eg meiner at då har faktisk sniglen vunne, og det går eg ikkje med på. Sniglen skal ikkje få bestemma kva eg kan ha i min hage!

Lus er ei anna utfordring i hagen. Ho er glad i plantesafta på roser og andre planter, og tek livskrafta frå plantene. Lusa er mat for andre insekt som marihøna og biene, så litt lus er bra å ha. Likevel er lus eitt aukande problem, har eg observert, og det har med dei milde vintrane å gjera. Eg har ei flott, gamal New Dawn- rose på husveggen, og den får vanlegvis litt lus utpå sommaren. I vinter har lusa overvintra på rosetreet, og er allereie godt i gong med formeiringa . Tørr vår og sommar gjer forholda enda meir optimale for lusa. Eg ser lus på planter eg aldri hadde trudd kom til å få lus, så her gjeld det å fylgja med.

Korleis er då beste måten å handtera desse utfordringane?

Eg gjer to ting med sniglane. For det første tek eg meg ein liten tur i hagen stort sett kvar kveld, der eg har dei plantene eg veit dei likar best. Fram med saksa og klypp, klypp, klypp! Uti juni kjøper eg Nemaslug, som er eitt miljøvenleg produkt som inneheld små nematoder. Nematodar er små mikroskopiske ringorm, som er som parasittar på sniglen, og til slutt tek livet av han. Det er ikkje billeg i innkjøp, men ein liten pakke rekk lenge. Eg lagar ein graut av Nemaslug blanda ut i lunka vatn, havregryn og vørterøl. Grauten fordeler eg i mjølkekartongar, smørboksar o.l. Eg lagar små opningar, så ikkje fuglar eller andre dyr kan få tak i det. Nemaslug er fersk-vare, og har ikkje så lang handbarheit, så det er ikkje dumt å alliera seg med naboen, og gjenta dette systematisk med nokre veker mellomrom heile sommaren.

Så er det lusa. Det er mange kjerringråd mot lus, og eg har ikkje prøvd alle. Eg plar  laga grønsåpevatn og sprøyta på. Dette gjentek eg etter ei vekes tid, så er ein sikker på at alle lus er tekne. Elles er det viktig å vera nøye med vatning, for lusa synst plantesafta frå tørre planter er er ekstra søt og god.

Er ein nøye med å gjennomføra det opplegget ein går for, vil ein etter kort tid sjå effekt, og kan gå sigrande ut av kampen.!
